Unfortunately, I have not made any videos on how to prepare the Banturay Shake. Well this is because I lack the resources to make a video and I most of all do not have the time. The inspiration to come up with this recipe came about when my daughter's Home Economics teacher assigned her class to think of a unique fruit shake recipe. Off course, Daddy came to the rescue!!!
In my opinion, any fruit shake is no different from any other. If I use ingredients that are commonly found in other fruit shakes, then my recipe won't be unique at all. Plus, I thought that if the judges had taste preferences, the deliciousness of the shake wouldn't matter much.... the judges would probably choose the shake made from their favorite fruits. Then I remembered the Malunggay Ice Creami.... the inventor of that recipe got so much credit for its originality. Then I thought that If I use malunggay, my recipe would still be "ununique"....... Then..... like a vision.... it came to me....... Corkwood flowers.
Corkwood flowers are locally known in the Philippines as Katurayi. They are more famous for fish sauce recipes like Dinengding and Inabraw. Many creative cooks have thought of using Katuray for salads(it does taste like cabbages when raw) and other recipes. I, instead, used it for fruit shakes.
The steps are very simple, just mix 1/4 cup of blanched katuray petals and sepals and 1 banana (prefereably saba) in a blender. Add 5 tblspn white sugar, 2 glasses of crushed ice, 2ounces of evaporated milk, then blend!!!!!
trust me.... tastes like avocado.
I haven't tried katuray with other fruits but i intend to try mangoes in the future
Anyway, the judges noticed the uniqueness of the Banturay Shake and they told me that if I add a few more ingredients, it will turn out more delicious. It was a tie until after the weekend, we ended up 2nd place... but that's not so bad considering that our shake was chosen among others that used more expensive fruits and ingredients... and oh, yeh! The Banturay Shake costs only around 10.00 Philippine pesos per preparation (that's around 3.50 pesos per serving). Affordable huh!
Anyway please send me feedbacks to my email lotreb@yahoo.com....
thanks and enjoy the shake!!!!
... by the way, my name is Bert!!!!
