Sicilian sauce for pizza ingredients

  • 3 T olive oil
  • 1 Med. onion, finely chopped
  • 2 t Dried basil, crumbled
  • 1 t Dried oregano, crumbled
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 T Tomato paste
  • 1 28 oz. can crushed tomatoes
  • -with added puree
  • Salt and fresh ground pepper
  • -to taste

Cooking Sicilian sauce for pizza

1. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, heat oil; add onion, basil and oregano.
2. Cook until onion softens slightly, stirring occasionally about 6 minutes.
3. Mixi in garlic and cook 2 minutes.
4. Add tomato paste and cook 3 minutes, stirring often.
5. Add tomatoes and bring to a simmer, crushing tomatoes with back of spoon.
6. Simmeri until sauce is very thick, about 45 minutes.
7. Seasoni with salt and pepper.

9. Cover and refrigerate 1 week or freeze up to 1 month.

11. when ready to make pizza, top with your favorite items and back at 350 °F for about 15 minutes or until crust is lightly browned and sauce is bubbly.
