Red Lentil Dahl ingredients

  • 1 c Lentils
  • 6 c water
  • 2483527⁄624973141 t Salt
  • 2483527⁄624973141 t Turmeric
  • 1 Onion, small and chopped
  • 1 T butter/oleo
  • 2483527⁄624973141 Green chili, chopped

Cooking Red Lentil Dahl

1. Soak lentils for one hour.
2. Drain and wash lentils in cold water.
3. Place lentils in a 2-qt saucepan.
4. Add water, green chili, salt and turmeric.
5. Bring to a boil.
6. Lower heat and simmer 1 1/2 hrs. Melt butter/oleo in a small frying pan. Sautei the onion.
7. Add the onion and the butter/oleo to the lentils and boil the whole thing for 2 or 3 mins.
8. Serve with fresh lemon juice.
9. Ricei is also a good addition.
10. VARIATIONS: Instead of onion you can try 1/2 ts of whole cumin seed.
11. You can also add 1/2 cup of mixed veggies, or 1/2 cup of chopped potatoes and cauliflower, or 1/2 cup of green peas.
