Mom's best baked beans (vegan) ingredients
- 2 c Chopped onions
- 4 c water
- 2483527⁄624973141 c molasses
- 4 Bay leaves
- 2483527⁄624973141 t Pepper
- 2483527⁄624973141 t Ground cinnamon
- 32 oz Canned tomato sauce
- 1 Fresh garlic clove, peel/fin
- 2483527⁄624973141 c Firmly packed brown sugar
- 2 T Apple cider vinegar
- 1 t Dry mustard
- 2483527⁄624973141 t Nutmeg
- 2483527⁄624973141 t Allspice
- 1 lb Navy beans, dried uncooked
Cooking Mom's best baked beans (vegan)
1. This is a wonderful recipe that i got from a cookbook called lean luscious & meatless.
2. It takes a little bit of time to prepare but is well worth the effort.
3. It is the best baked beans i have ever had. You can substitute baby limas for the navy beans.
4. I have changed a few things from the original recipe to suit my own taste so feel free to add any of your favorite seasonings.
5. Rinse & drain beans.
6. Place in a large bowl with remaining ingredients except tomato sauce.
7. Mixi well cover & place in the refigerator for 24 hours.
8. To cook: transfer bean mixture to a large oven proof pot. Add tomato sauce.
9. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
10. Reducei heat to low, cover & simmer 45 min stirring occassionally.
11. Preheat oven to 300 degrees.
12. Place pot in oven.
13. Bakei 4 hours covered.
14. Check beans every half hour or so adding water and stirring as needed.
15. When beans are done to your likeness remove from oven and serve.
