Misr allecha ingredients

  • 1⁄3 c Onion, chopped
  • 2 clv garlic, finely chopped
  • 1 T Corn oil
  • 1 c Red lentils, soaked
  • -cooked, drained, mashed
  • 1⁄2 t Ground Turmeric
  • 1⁄2 t Salt
  • 3 t Hot green pepper, finely
  • -chopped
  • 1 c water

Cooking Misr allecha

1. Misr allecha is a spiced red lentil puree.
2. soak lentils for one hour.
3. Cook for ½ hour.
4. Drain.
5. Mash and set aside.
6. in dry pan over moderate low heat, stir fry the onion and garlic for 2 minutes.
7. Add the oil and stir fry for 1 minute more.
8. add the mashed lentils, tumeric, salt and chili.
9. Mixi well.
10. Add the water and cook for 3-4 mins longer to reduce the mixture to a thick, red, well spiced puree.
11. serve warm with injeera.
