Mennonite Bread ingredients

  • 2 pk Active-Dry yeast
  • 2 c water -- 105-115 degrees
  • 2 c buttermilk
  • 1⁄4 c Vegatable oil
  • 1⁄2 c Honey
  • 1⁄4 c Wheat germ
  • 1 c rye flour
  • 4 c Whole-wheat flour
  • Bread flour

Cooking Mennonite Bread

1. In a large mixing bowl, dissolve the yeast in 1 cup of the warm water.
2. Let stand 5 mins.
3. until yeast foams.
4. Stiri in the salt, oil, honey, remaining water, and buttermilk.
5. Mixi in the rye flour, wheat germ, and whole wheat flour; beat well.
6. Add bread flour, 1 cup at a time, beating well until stiff dough forms.
7. Turn dough out onto lightly floured board and knead until smooth and elastic, about 10 mins.
8. , adding additional bread flour as needed.
9. Wash bowl, grease it, and add dough to bowl.
10. Turn over to grease top of dough.
11. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled.
12. Greasei four 81/2 bread pans.
13. punch dough down.
14. Divide into 4 parts.
15. Shape each into a loaf and place in pans.
16. Cover loosely.
17. Let rise until about doubled.
18. Bakei in preheated 375 degree oven for approx.
19. 40 mins.
