Lois' raisin soda bread ingredients

- 2 c flour
- 1 1⁄2 t baking powder
- 3⁄4 t Baking soda
- 1 t Salt
- 3 T Sugar
- 1 1⁄2 t Carroway seed
- 3 T -Shortening
- 2⁄3 c Golden Raisins - Plumped
- 1 c buttermilk
- 2 T Melted butter
Cooking Lois' raisin soda bread
1. * to plump raisins: place raisins in a small saucepan and just cover with hot water.
2. Simmeri until raisins have absorbed the water.
3. Set aside.
4. Preheat oven to 350°F.
5. Blend the flour and the next five ingredients.
6. Cut ini the shortening with a pastry blender until well blended.
7. Mixi in raisins.
8. Add buttermilk all at one time, mix lightly to a soft dough.
9. Turn the dough into a greased 9-inch round layer cake pan. Cut a cross into the top about 2/3 into the loaf.
10. Brush top with melted butter and sprinkle with 4 teaspoons additional sugar.
11. Bakei 40 minutes or until brown.
12. Makes 1 loaf.
