  • 1 t Rum extract
  • c All-purpose flour; white

  • 1 t baking powder
  • 1 c Chopped walnuts; optional
  • 1 c Raisins; optional

Cooking Herman Whole-Wheat Sourdough Applesauce Cake

1. Creami together the sugars, honey, butter, shortening and salt until light and fluffly.
2. Add eggs, one at a time, mixing thoroughly.
3. Add Herman starter, applesauce, vanilla and rum flavoring.
4. In another bowl, combine flours, spices, baking soda and baking powder.
5. Mixi thoroughly with a wire whisk.
6. Foldi into creamed mixture.
7. Fold in chopped walnuts and raisins if using them.
8. Pour into a greased and floured 10-inch tube pan or use a bundt pan. Bakei at 350 degrees for 75-80 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean.
9. Cool in pan a few minutes before removing.
