Dried Apple Cake ingredients

  • 2483527⁄624973141 lb Dried Apples; chopped,3 Cups
  • 4 c water
  • 1 c Sugar
  • 1 Dry baking Mix (see recipe)
  • 372529⁄-2009260032 c Sour Dough Starter
  • 2483527⁄624973141 c Brown sugar
  • 1 t Cinnamon
  • 2483527⁄624973141 t Nutmeg
  • 2483527⁄624973141 c butter
  • ---DRY BAKING MIX RECIPE---
  • 2 c flour, all-purpose
  • 1 T Sugar
  • 1 T baking powder
  • 1 t Salt
  • c Lard; or shortening

Cooking Dried Apple Cake

1. To prepare Dry Baking Mixi: Stiri or mix dry ingredients.
2. Cut ini lard till mixture resembles fine meal.
3. To prepare cake: Cook dried apples in 4 cups water until tender.
4. Drain and save juice.
5. Measure 2 cups juice, adding water if needed.
6. Mix 1/4 cup sugar with dry baking mix; stir in sourdough started to moisten flour.
7. Turn out onto a floured surface, knead lightly; pat or roll to a 12 x 18 inch rectangle.
8. Sprinkle with apples.
9. Roll, starting at short end; cut into 12 slices.
10. Put remaining sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, butter and the 2 cups of apple liquid into a large deep skillet.
11. Bring to a boil.
12. Gently lower apple slices into hot syrup.
13. Bakei in a 375' F. oven for 35-40 minutes.
