PHYLLO DOUGH

I know what phyllo dough is, but never used it. Let's say I purchase a box of the dough and it has 2 pieces in it-- When a recipe calls for one sheet of phyllo dough, does that mean one of the very thin pieces, or one of the 2 pieces?
