Tips on cooking a really tasty turkey

in

turkey.jpg

Choose the size of turkey you need
First of all decide on the size of bird that you need. For birds up to 4.5kg/10lb, allow 350-450g/12oz – 1lb per person and for larger birds allow 200-350g/8-12oz per person. Then check that you have a roasting tray large enough to fit the bird in and also that the bird plus tray together will fit in your oven!

Bastei the bird

Advantages of Pressure Cookers

Submitted by Catly on June 19, 2008.

in

pressure-cooker.jpg

Pressure cooking is a method of cooking in a sealed vessel that does not permit air or liquids to escape below a preset pressure. Because water's boiling point increases as the pressure increases, the pressure built up inside the cooker allows the liquid in the pot to rise to a higher temperature before boiling.

Cooking Games

Playing cooking games help prepare a child deal with the real thing when he or she gets older. He or she could even help you out in the kitchen. Some kids find it amusing to cook a meal for themselves and eventually would be more eager to finish up their food. Psychologically, it’s the sense of contentment that they are going for. This approach is excellent for parents who have kids that are fussy with their food or have poor appetites. Children like to imitate adults’ daily chores such as doing the laundry, driving a car and you have to bet cooking is one of them too!

  • Prepare foods as late as possible and keep foods in fridge until required.
  • Marinatei foods in the fridge. Don't put raw meat into a marinade if it is to be used for a sauce, rather reserve a portion specifically for the sauce.
  • When using an acid-based marinade, be sure to use only containers made of glass, ceramic or stainless steel or use food-safe plastic zip-lock bags. Do NOT use an aluminum container - It creates a chemical reaction that can darken the food and the aluminum container.

10 Facts about Cheese

Submitted by Catly on May 7, 2008.

1. The first cheese was made over 4000 years ago by nomadic peoples. It is believed that someone tried to store or transport fresh milk in a water bag made from an animal stomach. Later, when the milk was needed, the first cheese was discovered (the rennet in the lining of the bag would have caused the milk to separate into curds and whey).

2. Cheesei is a concentrated form of milk. It takes 10 litres of milk to make one kilogram of Cheddari.
